About The Castaneda School House

The Castaneda School House is an open-ended, nature embracing, child-led homeschool for children two years - four years of age. Our main goals are to educate each child as a whole at their own individual pace, ease the child gently into a school-like setting, and give them the space to develop a deeply rooted confidence in themselves and a lifelong love for learning.

We do so by mixing Montessori and Reggio-Emilia philosophies and emphasizing the old-fashioned good stuff: a slower, more natural pace of learning, sensory experiences, imagination, fine and large motor skills, creativity, social skills, and most importantly, uninterrupted PLAY.

Our favorite things about this schoolhouse are:

🌿 We offer a very unique learning environment, located in a residential home that has been transformed into a fully functioning school. We are a beautiful combination of homeschool, preschool, and schoolhouse. This keeps our space private, welcoming, small (in the best ways), and cozy. 

🌿 We embrace a student-led philosophy. We allow our curriculum and schedule to flow around each individual child, their interest, and their own pace of learning.

🌿 Our school is small. We keep our enrollment minimal to insure the teacher to child ratio creates a positive, easily manageable and enjoyable classroom experience for student, parent, and teacher.

🌿 We are an all-weather school. We stand by our belief in the importance of children being outside daily to improve their physical, emotional, and intellectual development and well-being. We will explore the outdoors all throughout the year, in all weather conditions. 

🌿 Lastly (and probably are most favorite), we make big messes! We encourage each and every student to use all of their senses when exploring, creating, and playing. Mud, paint, glue and glitter, dough, bubbles, and water are a few of our most delighted things.
